We have all heard the expression ‘Nice guys finish last’. Well, I guess that could be right (although some dispute it), but there are two parts to that equation – ‘where we finish’ and ‘being nice’, and, in life, we get ‘points’ for both those things. So, we should all try to finish as high up the leader board as possible, whatever that means, but at the same time we should also make every effort to show consideration towards others. Some people will sacrifice being nice for getting ahead and others will sacrifice where they finish for being nice. But sacrificing one for the other doesn’t make us clever. Both attitudes are flawed, just in opposite ways. We should be trying to get the balance right between the two things. That’s what is difficult, but it is getting the balance right that makes someone really clever.
